Prof. Dr. Ute Mons has been head of the Primary Cancer Prevention Division since July 01, 2024. Under her leadership, the research program in the field of secondary prevention with a focus on innovative methods of early cancer detection and cancer prevention is currently being continued: the GEKKO study launched in 1-2016 as part of the NCT 3.0 program, the DARIO study (start 09/2016, study end 06/2020) and the LEO study recruiting since 12-2020, the latter with participants in the age group 30-49 as part of the NCT "Proof of Concept Trial" program. She holds an M.A. in Sociology and Economics, and a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health from the University of Heidelberg. She has co-authored more than 150 research publications, mostly in her main research areas tobacco control, cancer prevention, and chronic disease epidemiology. In these areas, Ute Mons is involved in several national and international research projects, including being Co-PI of the first three waves of the ITC Germany Survey, and PI of the German ITC surveys within ITC 6E and EUREST-PLUS. Ute Mons also participates in several national committees to promote public health and tobacco control. In 2017, she was awarded one of the ECL ECTOH Young Professional Awards recognizing her contribution to tobacco control.
