Marc Willemsen

Ph.D.

Prof. Marc C. Willemsen holds an endowed professorship in Tobacco Control Research at the School for Public Health and Primary Care (CAPHRI), Department of Health Promotion, Maastricht University. He is also Head of Tobacco Control Department of the Trimbos Institute and directs the Netherlands Expertise Center for Tobacco Control (NET). He has an M.A. in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Public Health.

He received his PhD in 1997 on a tobacco control topic and has continued to conduct tobacco control research since then. He has conducted many national and international studies in the field of smoking cessation and tobacco control and has published on numerous topics, particularly on smoking cessation, tobacco control policy making and effectiveness of tobacco control policies. He wrote a book on tobacco control policymaking and is currently writing about Dutch tobacco control policy.
