Laura J. Rosen is Associate Professor and former Chair of the Health Promotion Dept. at the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, and an International Collaborator at the Center for Global Tobacco Control at the Harvard School of Public Health. She received an MS from the Harvard School of Public Health in Biostatistics and a P.h.D in Public Health and Epidemiology from the Hebrew University School of Public Health.
As Principal Investigator of the ITC Israel Project, Dr. Rosen initiated the ITC/TAU collaboration, and is leading the Israeli team in all aspects of the research. Her primary research focus is on creating and using evidence to improve public health, particularly in the field of tobacco control. Her main research interests include prevention of tobacco smoke exposure, tobacco control policy, public knowledge and attitudes regarding tobacco control, and smoking cessation. In addition to academic research, teaching, and mentoring, Dr. Rosen founded and runs the Tobacco Control Research Forum at the School of Public Health, and is actively involved in policy making in Israel through participation in various professional forums and Knesset (Israel Parliament) discussions.
She was a member of the Public Committee for the Reduction of Smoking and its Harms, which created the governmentally-approved national tobacco control plan. Dr. Rosen serves as an expert witness for the current Supreme Court case on Neighbor Smoking (tobacco smoke incursion into private apartments from neighboring apartments) and is also an expert witness in an administrative case on this topic. Funders of grants which she has received include the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute (FAMRI), the Israel Ministry of Health, the Israel National Institute for Health Policy Research, and the Israel Cancer Association.
