Prof. AKM Ghulam Hussain has a multidisciplinary and multi-country training in Bangladesh, India, Soviet Union, England, Australia and Canada. He joined the ITC Project in 2009. He is a professor of Economics at the Department of Economics of Dhaka University. He taught at that department for more than 25 years. His major area of research is Tobacco Economics, Health economics and Development economics. His training and competencies include the area of tobacco use and impact analysis, tobacco farming, health economics and health cost analysis, microfinance, poverty and empowerment of women in the developing world. He has wide experience in large scale data collection design, management, data analysis as well as impact analysis.

Dr. Hussain worked as a consultant for many international organizations and Universities like Save the Children, IDRC, UNDP, FAO, WHO, ITC, and University of Illinois. Currently he is also affiliated with the University of Waterloo as a Visiting Researcher.
