Katherine East is a Griffith Edwards Academic Fellow at the Society for the Study of Addiction (SSA) and Principal Investigator of the England arm of the ITC Four Country Smoking and Vaping Project. She is also an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Waterloo, a Co-Chair of the International Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) Policy and Regulatory Science Network (PRSN), on the steering committee for Cancer Research UK's E-Cigarette Research Forum, and Associate Editor for Addiction. She has acted as an advisor for the Canadian Cancer Society and Evidence to Impact on youth vaping prevention initiatives and has also consulted for UKRI on research culture initiatives in the UK.

Katherine East is based within the Nicotine Research Group at King’s College London working on projects relating to nicotine and tobacco product perceptions and use, with a focus on youth and young adults. Her research interests include, nicotine and tobacco product perceptions and use, evaluating the impact of tobacco and nicotine policies (e.g., health warning labels, age of sale), youth smoking and vaping prevention, population research and survey methodology, and open science and improving scientific practice.

Katherine East has a BSc in Experimental Psychology from the University of Bristol, an MSc in Clinical Mental Health Studies from University College of London, and a PhD in Addiction Sciences from King’s College London. She also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Waterloo from 2020 to 2021.

Dr. East has over 80 academic outputs and was recently awarded the Fred Yates Prize for Early Career Researchers from the Society for the Study of Addiction (2024).
