Dr. Itsuro Yoshimi is a Senior Researcher in the Division of Tobacco Policy Research at the Center for Cancer Control and Information Services, National Cancer Center in Japan. Prior to joining the National Cancer Center, Dr. Yoshimi worked at the Public Health Center at Tokyo Metropolitan Government where he researched infectious diseases such as TB and HIV/AIDS, as well as outbreaks. He also worked at the National Institute of Public Health in Japan, on tobacco control. He joined the delegates from Japan at the Conference of Parties for the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).
Dr. Yoshimi's work has largely revolved around non-communicable disease prevention, with a focus on tobacco control and cancer control. He has helped to advance tobacco control policies in Japan through advocacy efforts, research, and capacity building on various tobacco control topics, including health knowledge, second-hand smoke in public places, and warning labels.
