Dr. Seo is the (Co-)Principal Investigator of the ITC Korea Survey. He is responsible for the coordination of the research team and for the coordination of the survey firm responsible for conducting the telephone survey fieldwork in Korea. Dr. Seo plays a key role in Korea in tobacco control and as President of the National Cancer Center, Korea, he also plays a lead role in the dissemination of research findings to the Korean government. The ITC Korea Survey has completed five waves of survey fieldwork since 2005.
Dr. Seo graduated from Seoul National University's Department of Medicine and received his Master's and doctorate degrees from Seoul National University. He is one of the pioneers in establishing the National Cancer Centre and has previously served as the head of the National Cancer Management Project Headquarters and the Director of the Smoking Cessation Center. In his 10 years as the President of the Korean Association on Smoking or Health, Dr. Seo played a pivotal role in Korea’s smoking cessation movement. He also served as the Director of the National Cancer Control Institute at the National Cancer Center, and expanded the horizons of the national cancer management project by publishing guidelines for cancer survivors management. Under his leadership, the National Cancer Center will be accomplishing its role as a central institution for national cancer management and will make this institution the world's best cancer specialist by supporting cancer research, reducing treatment costs, and promoting rehabilitation.
