Dr. Pednekar is the Director of Healis Sekhsaria Institute for Public Health in Navi, Mumbai, India. He is also a visiting Scientist at the Department of Society, Human Development, and Health, Harvard School of Public Health, USA. He is a Co-Principal Investigator of a prospective cohort study titled Tobacco Control Policy (TCP India) Evaluation in four states (Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh) of India. This study is a part of an International Tobacco Control (ITC) policy evaluation project conducted in more than 31 other countries. He is also a Principal Investigator in an ongoing MPI five-year R01 grant titled “Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Tobacco Use and Tobacco Control Policy in India” in collaboration with the University of Michigan. He is also a Co-Investigator on another D & I ongoing R01 grant in collaboration with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, USA. This study is an extension of our two large five-year R01 NIH-funded RCT intervention research grants, he was one of the leading investigators on both R01s; in the first, he developed and demonstrated the effectiveness of a tobacco cessation intervention among school teachers in Bihar, and in the second we assessed the efficacy of a tobacco control intervention for manufacturing workers in Mumbai, Maharashtra manufacturing worksites. Another ongoing Dissemination & Implementation (D& I) R01 grant to scale up by comparing a smartphone base to in-person training for implementing an evidence-based intervention to reduce tobacco use among school teachers, in Madhya Pradesh. He is also Principal Investigator in a worksite RCT intervention based on the DPP program, a project titled “Measurement of the effectiveness of a worksite multicomponent canteen and behavioural intervention on cardiometabolic risks in India” in collaboration with Durban University of Technology, SA.

Dr. Pednekar has extensive experience in national and international collaborative project management and implementation, including building relationships with collaborators. He has primarily worked in the area of tobacco control research and cancer control. His major research interests are tobacco epidemiology, nutrition epidemiology, and cancer epidemiology. He is actively involved in many national and international epidemiological research studies. He has already published number of scientific research articles in high impacted national and international journals, contributed as an author in some books and scientific reports, and also served as a reviewer for many national and international scientific journals like AJE, bulletin of WHO, etc. His academic accomplishments include a Doctorate in Epidemiology from the School of Public Health, University of Tampere, Finland, and a Masters in Statistics from Mumbai University, India.
